Mecicinal and Other Uses of Ontario's Noxious Weeds

Velvetleaf  - sometimes called skunk Cabbage  - Is an expectorant and a mild sedative.

Ragweed - Promotes menstruation and aids in abortion.

Chervil  - Stimulates appetite and  aids in digestion,  is a mild diuretic and cleanser.

Milkweed  -  Used to  eliminate warts,  diseases  of woman, contraceptive, pod and root area food source.

Yellow Dock - Is a laxative~and is used for problem skin.

Barberry  - Is  a tonic,  antiseptic, laxative,  astringent, mild anaesthetic,  antibacterial,  reduces   fevers,  stimulates   the uterus, aids in recovery and is used for intestinal difficulties.

Poison Hemlock - Is used as a pain reliever.

Thistle -  Is a  contraceptive, liver tonic,  stitnulant, promotes milk  flow  in woman,  antidepressant,  and  softe~s and  soothe~ damaged surfaces (mucous membranes)rinc in minerials

Knapweed -  Is abitter tonicD  anti-inflammatory stimulant,and liver stimulator.

Wild Carrot  - Is  a diuretic, antiseptic,  carminative (relieves gas), treats diabetes and is a food source.

Spurge (Cypress &  Leafy) - Is an anti-asthmatic, reduces phlegm, anti-spasmatic, expectorant and helps promote milk flow in woman.

Purple  Loosestrife  - Anti-carcagen,  astringent, antibacterial, lymphatic cleanser and heals wounds.

Proso-Millet - Is a food source.

Buckthorn  -  Is  a  laxative(for  chronic  constipation),  helps digestive  upsets,  tones  intestinal. muscles.  Also  thoroughly effective when administered to dogs.

Poison Ivy - Is used to cure ringworm, herpes and infections.

Goatsbeard -  Also  known as  oyster  plant for  the  distinctive flavour of  their boiled roots - promotes  milk flow, development of the breast and helps treat diabetes.

Colt's  Foot  -  Helps coughs,  bronchitiN. and  asthma.   Is  an expectorant,   reduces  phlegm,  demulcent, tissue  healer  and emollient and has insulin in it.

Dodder(Centaury)  - As tea stimulates appetite, aids indigestion,flatulence, and poor metabolism.

Hogweed - Is used to get rid of fleas in your home.

Vetches(vethlings or wild peas) - Cultivated by man and used as a winter vegetable.

Johnson Grass - Used as a source of grain, forage, and syrup.
